Thoroughly Modern Me

Since closing my business down last April, I've been wondering what to do with 22 yrs of accumulated crap. The motorcycle parts I'm not worried about. I'll use them for myself or for friends. The shop equipment I'm slowly moving into my garage, but the office fixtures are what really take up a lot of storage unit space. In all I have 8 file cabinets. Without them I could drop my storage unit from a 10x20 to a 10x10. And that would lower my storage bill of $150 to $70 per month.

My solution? Remove the standing shelves from my bedroom and replace it with file cabinets. I call it "Modern American Office Decor". I'm going to put 2, 5 drawer cabinets on one side of my bed, and 2, 4 drawer on the other. That will leave 2 horizontal file cabinets which will stack nicely under my window. The file cabinets will hold twice as much crap as my shelving and cut down on the dust build up in my room. The last 2 cabinets will probably get chucked.

Another remodeling dream I have is my kitchen. I have the standard wood cabinets, the standard faux wood counter tops, and the white ceramic sinks. Boring. My dream, and I've already been pricing it, is to rip everything out and replace it with stainless steel restaurant fixtures. I'd want to ceramic tile the floors and 3/4 of the walls, stainless counters with double deep sinks. Open stainless shelving, that way everything is visible, open, and accessible.

Imagine looking under the sink and there's all my plumbing, no crawling under/into the cabinet to fix a leak. The ability to pull all my shelving, counters, oven, and fridge out yearly for a good floor and wall mopping. From what I've found online, I can do the entire job for under $2500, and that's new equipment. I'd probably hit a restaurant supply store and buy used.

What would be your dream home?

This, for example, is only $433 brand new.

My dream home is self cleaning

That would be ideal, but if I can hose the walls down I'd be happy.

On about 3 or more acres (forested preferred), at least a 3 bay garage (one with a lift) plus shop space for a lathe/mill and other equipment. Storage would be on the 2nd floor. Hot tub out back away from the parking area. Solar/wind electric etc. Small house, big shower (steam and water),

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I like that solar/wind electric, had a hot tub yrs ago, many fantasies fulfilled then. I like everything single level. I always seem to need something on the other floor.

OMG, that sounds like the nightmare kitchen to me .. all the dust that would be settled on the dishes all the time .. ughhhh!! That is why they invented cabinet doors lol. I do like the sink you have pictured, as I do tend to make a mess with water every time I am at the sink.

Two inch sealed concrete countertops a foldable water spigot over my five burner
gas stove with convection oven and an 36" stainless steel Vent a hood with two
300 cfm centrifugal blowers.A 36'' Wide opening into the living room for viewing T V and conversation.

I just need the countertops, the spigot and the opening.
I've priced restaurant sinks similar to the one you've provided
and found them to be reasonably priced even used. They just
happen to be the popular thing right now you so have look for
good deals and the shape their in.I spent $1,200 for my
Vent a hood and it was a bear to mount but it'll last forever.

Using more than all the road!

I’m with Dayzeeme about the dust. Cabinets with doors also allow me to be slightly disorganized with pantry items. Visually I couldn’t take having to look at that clutter.

At this point I think my dream home would be a big penthouse condo with a river/downtown skyline view - but seeing as they run $1-2 million in my area, that’s not happening without a lottery win.

Hmmm...looking under your sink and seeing all your plumbing.
You know I'm picturing something totally different than what you find in the kitchen. Yeah, that means I have a dirty mind. Hey, it's a sex site....I can be like that! What the hell....I'm like that anyway. lol

Hmmmm....I know I left that wand around here somewhere!

hmmmm, I didn't think of the dust on the dishes, but it would be the top dish in each stack, I'd make sure my douche bag son gets that one!

I priced a stainless replacement sink from Lowe's and it was around $300 so I figured I'd rather have the sink/counter for $400. It's funny how all of us guys are picturing industrial strength kitchens. Concrete counter tops would be forever!

I hadn't considered the dust, maybe I can find something with doors. That downtown condo sounds very cool.

There's enough room to store that electric snake I used on my sewer pipe. I bet you'd like to peek under my sink and see that!

I wonder what you might come up with if you had really thought about it. That's pretty cool, I wish I had room for an island in my kitchen. Women always want a detachable showerhead like nobody knows what that's for.

You and RRR sound like your looking for the same kind of home, solar/wind powered and far away. I really am going to put those file cabinets in my room as soon as my g girls get their room cleaned up enough to move their dressers back into their room.

I like that kind of kitchen. All I need to do is set stuff out by the curb and local scrappers will come by and pick anything up. Problem is, you can't really leave anything you want to keep near the curb.

Dream house is at the beach, floor to ceiling windows, sliding doors everywhere, and a huge wrap-around deck.

Kitchen has double wall ovens, a walk in pantry, and a gas stove. Some open shelves, but mostly cabinets. Maybe some with glass in the doors. Big, deep double sink, a porcelain one. I hate stainless sinks.

Massive sewing room with lots of windows so I can see the water while I sew. A huge table for cutting out projects that i don't have to put away, and room for a long-arm quilting machine (because, the only way I am going to afford the dream house is to win the lottery, and that means I can afford the long-arm, lol)

I've always wanted the wrap around deck with a roof overhang, some rocking chairs. Now that's the way I'd want to go, nice and peacefully.
