The importance of snow.

I am sick of listening to people complain about snow. Yes some parts of the world does get more than its share but come on what do you expect winter to be? if you expect it to be like Florida... go ...move there because Canadian winters are way to harsh on your delicate skin..or freaking deal with it!
How important is snow cover ? Well i live in farming country and its damn important. Snow protects the land for all kind of things that threaten the land every day, erosion, wind destruction and frigid temperatures directly invading the open land..What does snow protect? The soil , the organisms that inhabit said soil..the new seedlings of grass that needs the benefits of minerals that's in the snow, and last but not least the freezing temperatures that's above the snow , frost lines that are below the surface of the soil if its not protected some will not produce hay crops for farms that feed the animals...the thawing out of the land in Spring will not be as fast as normal if snow isn't present...
So the next time you hear snow in the forecast think about all the things you buy , fruits, vegs,, hay for your animals, and the new grass , trees and flowers that bloom in the Spring making the land look fresh and new . before complaining about the snow ., because we all know something that simple plays an important part in what you see and eat...

I figure it is Winter and winter has snow. Get over it as life and Mother Nature is not concerned with our convenience.
Grew up on a farm and agree with all you said. A winter without or with below normal snow in Wisconsn, or worse in Canada, is a problem.
Couple weeks ago the news was full of stories about freezing septic systems and sewer lines in middle and northern Wisconsin. With very little or no snow the frost goes deep. Thankfully now they are getting some good piles of it.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

Snow also provides much needed nitrogen for the winter wheat.

lol yes and its a decision many make moving where there is no snow but in saying that I think temperate climates and seasons that bring well seasons is way more healthy than living in a year round climate maybe of just dry or hot temps...

yep you are right and people complain too much if its rain, its rain if its sunny, its sunny complaining wont fix what's seemingly broken to the complainers..lol me I don't care I have the option of going out or not hibernating with a great kisser and slipping down under the comforter when its cold for some fun ..well beats running naked thru the winter weather....ha

I am sorry no I may visit a certain place by times when I am able but refuse to live in a place where its one season ..I hear people complain there anyway if the temps drop below a certain point sadly people have become so accustomed to having a certain temperature that anything less is something more to complain about ...

We have had a total of about 30-35 inches this winter, but only about a inch on the ground right now. Too much freezing and thawing for me this year, I am having to move where I am feeding because the bottom keeps dropping out of it. The tractor is going 2-3 feet deep, and it is making it hard for the cattle to get around. I am much happier if it freezes up and stays frozen. Ha ha but we will get through it no matter what comes along. 😁

Anything worth doing is worth doing right

yes I am in an area where I used to have to move the horses around a lot and its annoying for sure..hard on the land and hard on the animals as well..I have a hugh piece of land 40 acres and my barn stands empty now sadly ..I was thinking on leasing the stalls out or bringing a couple head of cattle here to slaughter at some point..not sure...we have little snow right now and cold cold temps..no protection to speak of ..thanks

we do need the 4 seasons and I wouldn't change my location for nothing..I acclimatize as people should that lives in areas where there is seasons..its no big deal..its rough of course by times but you adjust ..some people don't know harsh weather at all and never know how to adjust but maybe some day they will be forced to whether they want to or not..Mother earth has to change its a predestiny ,,

that is true enough but then we had snow I don't mean the piddly stuff we have now that closes schools and parents don't dare leave their kids outside to play in like when I was little..we were kicked outside when a major snowstorm stopped first to shovel out and then to play...Dad was mostly away and Mom had us older kids to help and we did..but when it was time to play we built tunnels that we could walk all around the house outside and had snowball fights even if one hit us and knocked us down we didn't go crying to Mummy we sucked it up ...today if you had a snowball fight parents would be jammed into an emergency room with crying kids even for a freaking bruise lol...not us we were tougher than that ..ha ..thanks

Hey I saw where you said you were in a bad motorcycle accident...I hope you are recovering well and getting back to normal. I also read about your rant about snow. HOW TRUE! I live in Kansas and we grow Hard Red Winter Wheat as the spring crop. Those freezing temps are required for this crop and I find myself explaining this over and over to the complainers here in "Good ol' Kansas...PEACE
