Wow.....its a lot to consider while going in to biz. Breaches are all over. I too, received and email about Shopify...tho i cant remember using any third party that they are connected with. I m old skool...and do no online banking. I write checks and use the phone for balances n such. If there is no paypal ...i dont purchase. Once pay pal gets hacked....im screwed, although i only keep enough funds in there for a few purchases. Its all just scary stuff made even moreso ...for me....by all this electronic/technologies. Daughter calls me a dinosaur...lol. I probably am ~~

I've never (knowingly) had anything untoward happen to any of my accounts. Guess I could just be lucky, an unattractive target, or I take enough precautions that these things don't happen to me.

A few years ago someone I know paid for something by credit card over the phone and not long after there was something fishy about their account. He reported it to the company he bought from and the call handler was subsequently fired (and probably charged with some offence) - they were scribbling down details and using those themselves or a third party, or were selling them on.

Going online as a seller would open a minefield of safeguards you need to employ to keep customer details safe. There's probably companies out there who would do that hosting for you, for a charge of course, but it takes the worry away from you.

Sadly I think dealing with having to replace credit cards, open new bank accounts, etc, after being the subject of fraud, is here to stay.

I believe you're one of the subsets of the T-Rex, commonly known as No-Tech-Rex. Not to be confused with another subset, the Low-Tech-Rex.

I am so sorry this happened to you hun, it's happened to my grandson a couple of times too. And he's not even a member of the places where his card got breached.

This is why I NEVER shop or do ANYTHING of IMPORTANCE on line. I hope this doesn't happen to you again. I hear life lock really works, so I hope you have a fun filled Saturday..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

The highs and lows of the tech age in a nutshell. Convenient for the consumer, convenient for the criminal alike. Cash seems to be making a comeback in recent months for sure.

Just gotta keep an eye on things. And definitely some type of corporate entity to separate your business from personal "obligations" for sure. Anyone who doesn't want to do business with an LLC is not someone you likely want as a client anyways.

Good luck!

I only use debit card for cash at my bank atm. Credit card for others and cash in a restaurant. I have lifelock and use a vpn on my computer. For here, I send a money order. No card and no automatic renewal.
